Senior Development Manager

REQUIREMENTS:

Education 

A four-year degree in computer science or a related field is required.  Graduate training in business or technology is a plus, but not required.

Knowledge and Skills

The ability to drive, motivate, and guide a strong technical team is critical in meeting the business and technology needs of the Novus Suite.  In addition, the candidate for this position must demonstrate strong business acumen and communications skills.

Technical knowledge should include experience in building enterprise-level services, and hands-on design and development experience in Java and/or C .  Knowledge and experience in search algorithms, indexing schemes, performance optimization, Unicode support, and message-queuing technologies is a plus.

Previous Experience

Candidates should possess 14+ years of background in software development and be technology thought leaders.  7+ years of that experience should be spent in the successful leadership of software development teams and in interacting with line business staff to set business and project priorities.

Candidates should also possess:

An established track record for creating clear and concise technical designs and architectures for medium to large scale problems.
A history of meeting aggressive deadlines in uncertain environments and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Skills in developing and leading high performing teams that demonstrate excellence in a dynamic fast-paced environment with a high degree of flexibility and accountability.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including both oral and written proficiency

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

1.       (40%) Provide day-to-day oversight of a team of software engineers to ensure that key project deliverables are successfully delivered. Commit to the recruitment and growth of the individuals in the team, providing mentoring, career guidance, training and effective feedback. Provide effective performance management when necessary.

2.       (40%) Assisted by West Tech staff in the US, this position must ensure that development efforts meet demanding business expectations, balancing schedule, resource and project scope constraints.

3.       (20%) This position must partner with technical leaders across West Technology to determine the most appropriate technical solutions, conforming to West Technology architectural best practices and guidelines. Deliver solutions that deliver near term business value while keeping longer term and strategic technology objectives in mind.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:

There are 4 managers that will report in directly to this position.  The total headcount reporting into this position is approximately 75-80 FTE’s.
